Day of Caring

This morning was the Louisiana UMC Conference Day of Caring. I helped lead our church's activities, along with several other friends. We planned 7 different activities for people to choose from and each one emphasized service to the poor in our area---specifically our neighborhood. There was something for every age and ability level and it really turned out to be a fun morning. Outdoors, we had groups that picked up trash throughout the neighborhood, worked in our community garden and even planted flowerbeds for two needy households in the area.

Inside, we assembled Busy Bags for children waiting at hospitals or clinics . . .

prepared Jars of Generosity, dry soup mixes that were assembled and then distributed to homes in the neighborhood . . .

painted ceramic bowls for the Empty Bowls Project . . .

and collected shoes for the needy, and decorated plain tennis shoes or Toms shoes. This is the area that I led, and the participants had loads of fun!
