Anytime a project begins with Callie and I in Wal-Mart after 10:00 p.m., laughing hysterically over measuring the size of candy squares, can't end well. I'm just sayin' . . . .

Happy Friday - I'll let you know how it goes . . .
I didn't get to watch the whole show, but caught the last few minutes of Extreme Home Makeover this evening. I really loved the commercial that the little boy made with Ty, along with lots of other kids! As a preschool inclusion teacher, I think it would be awesome to share this with classrooms at the beginning of school (I'm going to work on that). I wanted to share it with you----it is not very long. (Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of my blog and silence the music player before this begins)
Some weekends just feel good and this was one of them! Saturday morning began with the Day of Caring, which turned out to be lots of fun and such a good feeling knowing that we were helping people, too. Afterwards, several of us had lunch together at Lilah's---yummy food and a chance to see the paintings in the most recent NCAP Art Show.
The weather was absolutely perfect----both Saturday and Sunday! Today, it's kind of fun to see the transformations that took place over the weekend. First up, my shoes . . . . from this (actually they were solid cream-color, but I forgot to take a picture before I started):

I'm embarrassed to admit that it has stood in my front yard for nearly a year now (I know---that's terrible). But, today, I moved it along with the concrete blocks it was sitting on and filled it all in with dirt and sod.

This morning was the Louisiana UMC Conference Day of Caring. I helped lead our church's activities, along with several other friends. We planned 7 different activities for people to choose from and each one emphasized service to the poor in our area---specifically our neighborhood. There was something for every age and ability level and it really turned out to be a fun morning. Outdoors, we had groups that picked up trash throughout the neighborhood, worked in our community garden and even planted flowerbeds for two needy households in the area.

For quite some time, I've wished for a front yard transformation. I love flowers and pretty flowerbeds, but I really have no idea what I'm doing in that regard. When we moved to this house many years ago, there was a large azalea bush and a Sasanqua tree in the front yard, but I couldn't really say they were in a flowerbed. It's more like they were just sort of planted in the grass near the house. My mother helped me dig the first bed and as the years have passed, I enlarged the bed and added other beds in the back yard. But, the plantings had no real plan and the weeds often overtake the flowers by mid-summer.
In addition, the sidewalk leading to the front door has been situated right next to the house. Because my carport is not full-size, my car basically blocks the sidewalk, rendering it totally useless for the most part.
So, a renovation has begun! First, we removed the Sasanqua tree (photos of that in this post) Now, I'm having a new sidewalk built----one that makes sense! Here's the plan:

The concrete is on the way tomorrow and I'm hoping that some professional landscaping will follow soon afterwards--a welcome face lift for the front yard!

There's really no polite way to describe it, so. . .
Have you ever had a buttsketch? Yes, you read that right----- at the wedding reception, "buttsketch" artists were available to provide personal portraits of, well, your back end! At first, I wondered why in the world this beautiful couple would include something so. . . umm. . . interesting, in their celebration. But after watching the artists at work for a few minutes, and seeing that it really was much more than a rendering of my rear end, I was on board. In fact, Callie, Cindy, Elizabeth and I posed for our own mother-daughter buttsketch! (Can you tell who is who??)

This past weekend was a beautiful celebration. Robin and Elijah got married in Tyler! Robin's family is one of favorites---her mom and I spend lots of quality time together while working out. We even learned a few line dances for the wedding reception! Lots of people from our church drove over for the wedding---in fact, they ended up coming over in the church bus, which was quite cool. Callie and I drove over on Friday evening since she needed to be at the rehearsal and were fortunate enough to stay with friends. Cindy and Elizabeth are our "Mexico buddies", so we knew we'd have fun hanging out with them. As an added bonus, Cindy's sister let us stay at her house (and dog-sit) while they were out of town.
I had my camera in my purse, but basically forgot to take any pictures once the festivities had begun. It was extremely windy----which kept things from getting too hot during the ceremony, but also posed a challenge in keeping the music on the stand. I ended up having to stand nearby to turn pages and try to hold things in place while Callie and the guitarist performed. They did a wonderful job and the wedding was just beautiful!!!
