This is the way we looked as we neared the end of the puzzle.
This is the reason why----2 pieces left, 2 holes. Unfortunately, neither of the pieces fit into the remaining holes!!!
Solution, carefully scan each piece of the puzzle to finally find the pieces that were incorrectly placed and switch them out!

That is marginally better than reaching near-completion and finding two pieces missing! That is so frustrating.
