Swim, Bike, Run

I've been absent from the blog for a little while.  With just a little time left before school starts again, I decided to take advantage of the time to really relax and enjoy a vacation.   The next few posts, I'll catch you up on what's been happening in the last 7-10 days---lots of fun!!

Last Sunday morning, I joined Ron and Tyler back out at Cypress Lake again.  This time, we went for the annual River Cities Triathlon.  This is a "big deal" race.   An interesting side note:  Lance Armstrong set the course record (which still holds) way back in 1988, when he was just 15 years old!!

Participants come from about 18 different states, although most are from the Louisiana/Texas area.  It was the first time I'd ever witnessed a triathlon and it was so much fun!!

Ron's goal in this triathlon was to finish!  (great goal, I might add)   He knew he wouldn't be competitive in this race, but hoped to finish with a respectable time.  With tattoos applied and all his gear ready, he left to join the other participants!   He was number 576-----I promise I was just taking a photo of the number!!   Well, maybe . . .

The swim came first.   Each wave left to the sound of a cannon blast---which scared the bejeezus out of us the first time it went off!

Open water swimming is very different from swimming in a pool and it quickly got the best of many people.  Ron struggled with the swimming part since he started too quickly and had a difficult time pacing his breathing.  And it was so hot!!  But he made it!!  Hooray!

Next up was the biking.

The course left the park, so Tyler and I had time to goof off and watch the other racers as they came and left the area.  It was so fun to see Ron riding up and then heading off again for the run!
We moved our chairs over the finish line and watched as each person passed under the arch!

Ron did great!!!
